Lesson 1: Introduction

🧑‍🏫
Teacher Note: At the beginning of each video, there appears a screen (see above) that identifies the Program Module and Lesson number for the program to follow. Also included is a brief description of the content or behaviors being taught. In this case, "Don't be HOT, Don't be COLD, Be in control... BeCool." BeCool is in bold because it is the "key action" being taught. You may use this information as an "Advanced Organizer" for yourself as well as your students.

Teacher Notes

The first lesson of each of the five BeCool Modules presents our narrator of the series... Chester The Cat. In this introductory show, Chester will take students on his personal journey to search for a different way to respond to difficult people and situations. Using easy-to-understand language, Chester will introduce the BeCool response style and its three steps: LOOK COOL, THINK COOL, and ACT COOL. He will also explain the symbolism of the "sunglasses" and the aid it can give to achieve the BeCool state of consciousness.

Chester's journey is divided into five chapters. We recommend viewing one chapter each day and completing the guided discussion or activity provided. Practice these activities several times before moving on to the next chapter. Remember that repetition helps to build confidence in using the BeCool response styles.

If you have purchased more than one module in the BeCool series and have already introduced your students to the BeCool paradigm, you may find this chapter helpful in providing the necessary practice of the BeCool process.

The BeCool concepts can be incorporated into classroom activities daily, for short periods of time. Through reinforcement of concepts, young students will learn the positive response style, which will build self-confidence, increase thinking skills, and help students to become more successful.

Your more capable students will quickly learn to identify the three "styles" of response and the benefits of each. Your more challenged students may have more difficulty, but continual use of the "icons" will help them recall the feeling tone of each style even if they are unable to verbalize them.
