Guided Discussion

Chester met the Master and was told that the secret to staying in control of yourself is not to be COLD and not to be HOT, but to BeCOOL. Let's review the response that Chester had when he was with the bullies and the response he had when he was with his friends.

The COLD Response

What was the reaction Chester had to the bullying Foozles?

Chester whined and begged the bullies to leave him alone.

Did that work? Why not?

No. He showed that he was afraid of them and that made them bully him even more. Remember this important fact: showing you're afraid and looking helpless is the reaction the bully wants. (More will be discussed about this fact in Lesson 2.)

How did Chester feel?

Scared and bad.

COLD Review

The Foozle bullies were looking for someone to take their abuse. Because Chester acted afraid and wimpy, the Foozles took advantage of him. We will learn that Chester's "helpless" response is called being COLD.

The HOT Response

What was Chester's reaction to his friends' teasing?

He got upset and yelled at his friends to leave him alone.

Did it work? Why not?

Well, it did stop the teasing, but now his friends are gone. They feel sad and Chester doesn't feel good either.

Did Chester's response this time work any better than his last one?

No. It didn't work any better. His friends left him and he felt bad.

HOT Review

Chester's friends didn't mean anything by their friendly teasing, but because Chester got upset and yelled at his friends, now he's got no one to play with. We will learn that Chester's "blowing up" response is called being HOT.
