- Give each student six index cards.
- Have each student write his or her name on the top of each card.
- Collect the index cards and divide into two groups, three cards of each student in each group.
- Distribute the first group of index cards to students so that each student receives three cards with three different student names.
- Tell students they are to write down one or two things they like about each student whose card they have.
- Collect the cards.
- Distribute the second group of cards so that each student receives three cards with three different student names.
- Tell students this time they are to write one way they think the students whose cards they have could become more likable.
- Collect the cards.
- Put the cards for each student together.
- Review the comments and suggestions for improvement to be sure they are appropriate.
- Meet with each student to discuss the comments and suggestions that were volunteered.
- Ask students to decide if the information volunteered addresses behaviors that are under their control.
- Have students select one idea for improvement and suggest specific ways they can change that behavior.
