- Have each of several small groups imagine that they have formed a company and now own and operate a business.
- Have students determine the kind of business they will run.
- Have students make a checklist to give their employees feedback on their progress.
- Remind students of the rules for giving feedback:
- Good feedback concerns behavior that a person can con-trol. It is not about a characteristic the person cannot control or change.
- Good feedback includes specific suggestions for change or improvement.
- Good feedback helps; it does not punish.
- Review the rules for accepting feedback (Behavior Development Activity, Unit 5, Lesson 2).
- Have groups rotate playing the parts of employers and em-ployees.
- Have students roleplay an evaluation meeting in which the employer discusses the checklist with one of the following employees:
- A worker who is slow in learning new tasks but works hard to get his or her work done
- A worker who is disorganized
- A worker who knows how to do the job very well, but can't accept criticism and is always putting down other employees' work
- A worker who puts in consistent effort all day every day
- A worker who always disagrees with what he or she is told to do
- A worker who arrives early and stays late in order to finish his or her work
- A worker who is late for work and acts like he or she doesn't care about the iob
- Have the employee respond to the feedback appropriately.
- Have the employer and employee set goals together to improve the employee's job performance.
