Teacher Information
Strangers are everywhere in a child's environment. Emphasize that we see them everywhere. We must teach youngsters to respond appropriately to potentially dangerous situations without making them fearful of all strangers.
Picture Description and Suggested Guidelines
- These children are in the park. They do not know the man with the dog. The boy wants to know, "Who is he?" The girl does not know. The man is a stranger.
- The girl and her father are in a restaurant. They do not know the man at the next table. The girl asks her father, "Who is he?" The father says, "I don't know." The man is a stranger.
Activities
- Roleplay the scenes shown in the pictures.
- During opportunities that occur naturally on class outings and at play, point out strangers in familiar settings.
- Roleplay two people being introduced. First, they were strangers. Now they are "Hello People." They know each other a little bit.
