Concept

Some people touch children inappropriately. These people are wrong to do this.

Objectives

Children will be able to:

  • Identify inappropriate touch.
  • Say "NO!" assertively, leave the situation (if possible) and TELL appropriate persons.
  • Demonstrate either an appropriate spoken phrase or established sign, gesture, or pantomime to report that inappropriate touch has occurred.
  • Indicate the offender in the picture is wrong.
  • Identify the offender as someone the child might know.

Teacher Information

This panel continues to reinforce the concept that sexual abuse most often occurs with people children know and trust and in familiar places. Refer back to picture #46 for suggestions about teaching this section.

Picture Description and Suggested Language Guidelines

  • Here is a picture of a man and a little boy. The man put his hand in the boy's pants. The boy is upset. He has that "uh-oh!" mixed up feeling. The man is wrong. Nobody should touch his private parts.
  • Who do you think the man is?

What should the little boy do? He should tell his parents and teacher about this "not okay touch." Telling helps you to stay safe.

Activities

  1. Have children role play with dolls in a situation where someone touches a child on his private parts and have the child say "NO!" and TELL a parent & teacher.
  2. Have children identify feelings from a face feeling chart that have to do with not okay touch (angry, sad, mad, embarrassed, confused, etc.).
  3. Make collages using textures or pictures the children like and don't like. Have children select their favorite textures or pictures. Match them with feelings.
