Teacher Note
The community safety lessons, like the home safety lessons, can sometimes leave the impression that personal safety is mostly relevant for interactions with strangers. Stress that personal safety knowledge is important in case you ever need to know what to do when someone is acting inappropriately. An individual may never encounter this, but most people do sooner or later.
Teaching Questions
This woman was walking near her house when she saw a man being beaten up by a group of young people. She immediately went looking for help. If she sees a police officer, how should she wave to get his or her attention? Who else might be able to help? Could she use the same wave to get the attention of other drivers? Show me how the wave looks. Do you think it would be safe for her to try to break up the fight by herself?
