Teacher Notes
The community safety lessons, like the home safety lessons, can sometimes leave the impression that personal safety is mostly relevant to interactions with strangers. Stress that personal safety knowledge is important in case you ever need to know what to do when someone is acting inappropriately. An individual may never encounter this, but most people do sooner or later.
Teaching Questions
This young woman is in a hurry to get home after work. She is thinking about taking a shortcut through a series of alleys. What advice would you give to her? What is the safest thing she could do? It is safer to stay on busy, well-lit streets where there are other people around. If this were a man, would it be safe for him to cut through the alleys? Safety rules apply all the time, whether you're a man or woman.
