Teacher Notes
Discussions of home safety can sometimes revolve around the assumption that potential danger comes only from strangers. Remind students that safety rules apply all the time, with all people. Also, reassure students that they are learning safety rules even though they may never become victims of a crime.

What safe behavior do you see in this picture? This young woman is locking the door of her home using both the deadbolt and the chain. She does this to help prevent someone from breaking into her home. If someone came to the door, how could she safely identify who it is and what he or she wants? Who would it be safe to open the door for?
