This Teaching Picture explores several different injuries occurring simultaneously. Some of the injuries are potentially more serious than others. Discuss each pictured injury individually to explore their relative severity.

Teaching Questions

What is happening in this picture? This is a picnic attended by lots of people. They are doing lots of different things at the picnic.

Unfortunately, there are many injuries happening at this picnic. Can you see some of the injuries?

Choking, sprained ankle, bleeding, someone being hit in the head with a baseball bat, insect and animal bites, someone being burned by the barbecue, a sliver from the picnic table. Off to one side in the parking lot, is a car and bike accident.

Which of these injuries is the most serious? Which of these injuries is probably minor? How would you respond to each of these injuries? Could any of these injuries have been prevented?
