Discussion
We can manage our feelings to feel better. Scott feels better because he’s still going to see the concert. Scott did not want to worry about getting hurt while walking to the concert. Taking a cab will cost him some extra money, but if it keeps him safe it’s worth it—and, besides, now maybe he’ll finally get to the concert. Scott managed his fear by making a decision to do something to feel better.
Discuss/review the ideas given earlier by the class as to what they would have done if they were with Scott in the scary neighborhood. Evaluate students’ ideas in terms of promoting “feeling better” vs. complaining about their predicament or going home and missing the concert.
