“Scott’s Story”—Scott Feels Happy - Accompanies Lesson: 1
Objectives
- Understand why they have feelings
- Define the 4 core emotions- Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Happiness
- Recognize that feelings can be managed
Discussion
On the way to the concert, Scott and his friend encounter a scary neighborhood. Scott is AFRAID.
Ask: “Why is Scottafraid?” He’s afraid because the neighborhood he’s in looks tough and he could run into trouble. FEAR is the unhappy “scared” feeling that comes when we think something bad may happen. How can you tell Scott is afraid? (facial expression, tense posture)
Ask: “Before we go on to see what Scott did to “manage his feelings,” what would you do if you were Scott?” Discuss possibilities.
Important: This discussion reflects only part of the instructional content presented in the LifeFacts: Managing Emotions Teaching Guide.
