Objectives

Students will:

  • Identify ”Ask: What Am I Feeling? And Why?” As the second step in the 4-Step CALM Plan for managing fear.

Discussion

Next Scott asks himself: “What am I feeling?” And “Why?” Remind students that the ‘A’ in CALM refers to asking oneself about what we're feeling and why.

Ask students to imagine they are Scott asking himself these two questions. What would his answers be? For example:

‘’What am I feeling?” Scott realizes that he’s feeling afraid.

“Why am I feeling AFRAID?” I am AFRAID because this place looks dangerous. I could get hurt.

Now that Scott has a clear idea of what he is feeling and why, he is better able to help himself feel better.
