“Scott’s Story” - Scott Feels Happy - Accompanies Lesson: 1
Objectives
Understand why they have feelings.
- Define the 4 core emotions- Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Happiness
- Recognize that feelings can be managed.
Discussion
Let’s see what Scott did. Scott decided not to let his girlfriend spoil his evening. Since he had two tickets and a concert is more fun with a friend, he asked his best friend Ted to come with him. Ask: “How does Scott feel now?“ (Scott feels better and happy.)
We can manage our feelings to feel better. Scott feels better because he’s still going to see the concert. He may still feel sad and angry about the way his girlfriend treated him and will need to talk to her about what happened, but making the decision to still go to concert and to bring a friend was enough to make him feel better. Scott managed his sadness and anger.
Discuss/review the ideas given earlier by the class as to what they would have done if they were Scott. Evaluate students’ ideas in terms of promoting “feeling better” versus venting anger, “getting even,” etc.
