SYNOPSIS:
Walking home from school, Tessie, Jean, and Robert encounter teenagers who attempt to expose themselves. Robert says, "We're not interested," demonstrating assertive behavior and introducing and providing a limited explanation of sexual abuse. Jean then reminds students that it's not their fault, no matter how it happened, should it happen to them (or maybe it already has). She ends by reminding students that there are loving and caring touches.
Robert tells us about the day he wrestled with his brother's friend, Jeff. By surprise, Jeff tried to grab his crotch. Robert says, "No," and Jeff stops. He tells his mom and feels better. Next, we meet Tessie and the apartment manager. The manager seemed like a nice guy until the day he squeezed her. Charles talks about sexual abuse that doesn't involve touching. His coach asks him to pose for pictures in his garage photography studio. He asks Charles to strip down. Charles knew something wasn't right. The last story is Jeanne's. She talks about her favorite uncle, who stays at their house when he comes to town. One night, instead of a friendly backrub, he put his hand under her pajamas. Jeanne couldn't tell her mom for long because she felt ashamed. Finally, she tells her mom, who understands and wants to help.
INTRODUCTION TO TOPIC:
“This is a video on personal safety. It talks about some things that can be embarrassing or difficult. You may want to laugh and whisper, but please don't. What happens in the videos may have happened to someone you know, even someone in our class. It would hurt their feelings if it seemed like a joke to any of us.”
