Objectives

STUDENTS WILL:

  1. Recognize sexual abuse.
  2. Recognize “uncomfortable” feelings and uncomfortable touch as a warning sign.
  3. Understand that their body is their own and that they can decide who touches them and how.
  4. Know they can leave an uncomfortable situation.
  5. Believe it is not their fault if someone tries to trick or trap them into touch they don’t like.
  6. Know how to tell someone “No” or tell them to “Stop.”
  7. Be introduced to the concept of “consent.”
  8. Know to tell someone what has happened. If they aren’t believed, know to keep telling until someone believes them and helps.

TEACHERS WILL:

  1. Understand what child sexual abuse is.
  2. Know where to find and clarify legal responsibilities for reporting child sexual abuse.
  3. Be prepared to present the information to parents.
  4. Know how to handle disclosure.
  5. Be prepared to talk to a child who is a suspected survivor of sexual abuse.

PARENTS WILL:

  1. Understand basic information concerning the sexual abuse of children.
  2. Use the basic prevention concepts to talk to their children about sexual abuse.
  3. Be more comfortable talking to their children about sexual abuse.
  4. Be prepared to follow up the school program with their children.
