Lesson 16: Masturbation

Objectives:

Students will:

• Realize that masturbation is private.

Procedure:

1. Read Picture Card 28 and go over discussion questions.
2. It's helpful to dispel any myths regarding masturbation. Ask students if they've heard anything "bad" about masturbation. Then acknowledge that people used to think these things but now we know that it does not cause any health problems like blindness, baldness, etc. However, it needs to be recognized and accepted that some families and religious groups believe that masturbation is wrong.
3. Additional Information. If program guidelines permit, it is helpful for girls to know about their clitoris. It can be pointed out on Picture Card 14. (The clitoris is in front of the opening to the urethra where the inner lips-labia minora join.) Factual information can include that the clitoris is very sensitive and when touched or rubbed can give a good feeling.
