COLD Appearance:
- Head down, no eye contact.
- Body bent over.
- Sad or blank facial expression.
- Timid body movements
COLD Thoughts or Self-Talk:
- ‘I deserve to be treated this way.'
- "There's nothing I can do about it.'
- "If I speak up, they'll be more angry:"
COLD Behavior:
- Do or say nothing.
- Mutter or speak with a low voice volume.
- Cry.
- Meek, 'I did something wrong" victim attitude
- Avoid the angry person.
HOT Appearance:
- Head up, glaring stare, too much eye contact.
- Tense posture, clenched fists, right muscles.
- Angy, challenging facial expressions.
HOT Thoughts or Self-Talk:
- 'I I'm calm, they won't listen to me.
- 'If I don't fight back, they'll be angrier."
- 'Others will think I'm a sissy f 1 c fight back"
- 'Go ahead, make my day. I'll get even
HOT Behavior:
- Arguing or denying, not listening
- Speaking with elevated voice volume.
- Hostile voice tone.
- Making derogatory statements, lining throwing, or breaking things
COOL Appearance:
- Take time to gain composure. Pause, tum, look or step away.
- Take deep breaths, settle behaviors (stretching, etc.)
- Non-aggressive, attentive expression. Stand or sit up straight.
- Good eye contact when speaking and listening
COOL Thoughts or Self-Talk:
- 'I'm going to sway calm and listen."
- 'I'm a good person even if they're angry at me.
- "Is this anger fair"
- Decide if it's dangerous anger.
COOL Behavior:
If anger is fair
- Calm down. Look Cool, Think Cool
- Accept/Apologize/Make Amends
- Take A Break if person is too angry
to listen.
If anger is unfair:
- Talk It Over/Explain Your Side.
- Take A Break if person is too angry to listen.
if anger is dangerous:
- Leave and Get Help.
