Lesson 1: Review

  • Self-anger over issues such as broken agreements are feelings that are sometimes turned outward and expressed by showing disappointment, unhappiness, dislike, or disagreement with someone or some situation.
  • Or, turned inward, creating feelings of inferiority and defeat
  • Our bodies give signals that we are beginning to feel anger signals like tense muscles. heavy breathing or a pounding heart. We can relax our bodies by taking deep breaths and letting our muscles go limp When our bodies are relaxed, not uptight, we look cool
  • Angry feelings are okay... angry, aggressive actions are not.
  • Cold and HOT responses usually make the situation worse.
  • BeCool and you generally make the situation better.
  • The BeCool response to broken agreements learned today is:

LOOK COOL:

Calm down before doing anything (have a detached, non-threatening demeanor)

THINK COOL:

Use positive self-talk and clear decision-making (use non-blaming perceiving style statements.)

ACT COOL:

By choosing to use the 4-Step Assertion Plan.

Step 1: Tell what behavior you don't like.

Step 2: Tell how the behavior makes you feel.

Step 3: Tell what behavior you want.

Step 4: If you don't get to an agreement, tell what will happen if you can't work things out
