In Lesson 1, the focus was on specific techniques to cope with criticism that was fair or valid but that you didn't understand. In this lesson, we focus on what to do if the criticism is invalid or untrue. We call this process, "Explain Your Side."
In this lesson, we will introduce students to the "explain your side" process when dealing with criticism that is untrue, unfair, or hurtful.
Video Synopsis
When Trey shows up late for dinner, his Mom is fuming. She criticizes him, but it's unfair criticism. Trey models COLD, HOT, and assertive COOL responses to this kind of criticism, using the "Explain Your Side" process.
Introduction

We have watched one video on how to handle criticism that you didn't understand.
Do you remember Vanessa and her teacher, Ms. Andrews? How did Vanessa handle her teacher's criticism about her "inedible" salsa?
Vanessa didn't understand why the salsa was inedible. But she stayed COOL and "asked for clarification" from Ms. Andrews. Once Vanessa realized the criticism was valid, she "accepted" it.
Vanessa was criticized for something she really did. The criticism was fair and valid.
In the next video, we're going to see what to do when we are criticized and the criticism is unfair or untrue. It's called "Explain Your Side."
