Lesson 2: Review

  • It is normal to sometimes feel frustrated when learning something new.
  • Frustration and self-anger are sometimes expressed by showing disappointment, unhappiness, dislike, or disagreement with someone or some situation.
  • Our bodies give us signals that we are beginning to feel angry - signals like tense muscles, heavy breathing, or a pounding heart.
  • We can relax our bodies by taking deep breaths. When our bodies are relaxed, we look COOL.
  • Angry feelings are okay... blowing up is not.
  • COLD and HOT responses do not solve the problem.
  • BeCool and you generally solve the problem.
  • The BeCool response to Frustration when learning something new is to calm yourself, relax, take deep breaths, and use positive self-talk.
  • The BeCool response to Frustration when someone is showing off is:
  • LOOK COOL: Calm down before doing anything.

THINK COOL: Use positive self-talk and make choices.

ACT COOL: Use your "important voice" and use the 4-Step Plan to tell them how you feel and what you want.

Independent Viewing of Video

Encourage students to view the video independently. Have students practice the calming techniques along with the characters in the video.

Parent Education/Involvement

Consider showing the "BeCool Teacher/Parent Introduction" video and discussing the BeCool strategy at parent meetings, open houses, PTA meetings, etc. You may also suggest that the students take the video home to teach their families the BeCool strategy.
